Because our ferries do not have fixed sailing times, you must pay just before the crossing or at the latest when entering the ferry. Payment of the ferry fare due must have been made before the ferry reaches the other side. It is not possible to pay with cash.
For whom?
Drivers of passenger cars, motorcycles, commercial vehicles or trucks pay per crossing and must check in before the crossing. This check-in also applies to residents of the municipality of Altena with a subscription.
The crossing remains free for pedestrians, cyclists, mopeds and drivers of agricultural vehicles. They therefore do not have to check in for a crossing.
Please note: season ticket holders from the municipality of Altena with a season ticket for free crossings for €100 per calendar year also do not need to check in for a crossing. Season ticket holders with a season ticket receive a 50% discount for crossings for €20 per calendar year.
Check-in options
With the app as a registered passenger (logged in customer)
- Scan the QR code or click here to open the app
- Select the ferry you wish to use
- Select the license plate of your vehicle with which you are making the crossing
- Select the crossing
- Select the ‘Check in’ button
You have checked in and the applicable rate has been deducted from your credit balance.
With the app as a non-registered passenger (guest)
If you occasionally use the ferry services, you can pay in advance or during the crossing via the app. You pay the regular rate for this. The type and registration number of the vehicle are also requested.
Check-in is as follows:
- Scan the QR code or click here to open the app
- Select the ferry you wish to use
- Enter the license plate number of your vehicle with which you are making the crossing
- Select the ‘Next step’ button
- Under ‘Pay as’, select the ‘Guest (One-time crossing)’ button
- Select the crossing
- Select the ‘Check in & pay’ button
- Select the payment method and select the ‘Pay’ button
You have been checked in after successfully completing the payment at your bank.
On board with physical credit card
If you do not have a smartphone or do not wish to use the app, you can purchase a physical credit card.
The purchase price of a credit card is €30 and includes a balance of €40, which gives a 25% discount on the rates.
For a crossing with a credit card, you pay the ferry fare at the payment column on the ferry, charged to the credit balance. The license plate of the vehicle is also requested.

On board with bank card
If you occasionally use the ferry services, you can pay contactless on board with your bank card. You pay the regular rate for this. The type and registration number of the vehicle are also requested.
